| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Lion of Saint Mark passant, nimbed and facing left with wings raised, accompanied by the standing figure of the Doge Alvise Mocenigo IV in ceremonial robes, holding a long staff or banner. The lion and Doge are rendered in high relief against an unadorned field. The circular legend reads S·M·V·ALOY·MOCENICO·DVX, referencing Saint Mark of Venice and the Doge by name, while the mintmaster's initials D·G appear in the lower exergue flanked by ornamental stars. The composition follows the established Venetian ducatone iconographic tradition, with bold, well-detailed figural work characteristic of the late Republic period. |
