Obverse description A fully armoured knight on horseback prances to the right, brandishing an unsheathed sword raised above his head. The horse is depicted in a dynamic rearing posture, with the Utrecht provincial arms — a quartered shield — displayed beneath the horse's hooves in the lower field. The entire central device is enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a beaded outer border. The circumferential Latin legend reads MO · NO · ARG · PRO · CONFŒ · BELG · TRAI, interrupted by a small shield mint mark after the obverse legend on earlier dates, or a lamb on later dates.

Reverse description The crowned arms of the Dutch Republic — a shield bearing the rampant lion of the Netherlands — are displayed centrally, supported on the left and right by two rampant lions as heraldic supporters, all set on a decorative mantle with scrollwork. The composition is bold and highly detailed, with the crown surmounting the shield rendered in fine relief. A beaded border frames the design. The circumferential Latin legend CONCORDIA RES PARVÆ CRESCUNT, meaning 'By concord small things grow', encircles the design, with the date of issue (e.g. 1670) appearing at the top of the legend.
