| Reverse description | A full-length frontal figure of Saint Peter stands in hieratic posture, nimbus behind his head, holding a large key in his right hand as his attribute of apostolic authority. To the right of the figure appear the capped arms of Cardinal Alfonso Carrillo de Acuña, the legate responsible for the Bologna mint under Martin V. The figure is rendered in the flat, stylized Gothic manner characteristic of early Quattrocento hammered gold coinage. The reverse legend, in uncial script, identifies the subject as the Prince of the Apostles. |
