Obverse description St. Mark, patron saint of Venice, is depicted seated at left, presenting a staff surmounted by a cross and pennant to the kneeling Doge Francesco Loredan at right in a scene of investiture. The composition follows the traditional Venetian ducato iconography of divine mandate conferred upon the doge. The mintmaster's initials appear in the exergue below the figures. The surrounding legend in Latin identifies the doge by name and title.

Reverse description The Lion of St. Mark strides to the left in the field, with its head turned to face the viewer frontally, a hallmark of Venetian numismatic iconography. The lion's left forepaw rests upon an open book, symbolizing the Gospel of St. Mark. Above and behind the lion, a castle atop a hill appears in the upper field, a traditional Venetian reverse device. The circular Latin legend DVCATVS·VENETVS· frames the design.
