| Obverse description | Draped bust of Bishop Wolfgang von Schrattenbach facing right, wearing a fur-trimmed mantle and a pectoral cross suspended at the neck, his hair rendered in voluminous curls in the Baroque manner. The effigy occupies the central field and is of fine artistic quality consistent with early 18th-century Central European medallic work. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading WOLFFGANG D G EPVS OLOMVCEN DVX S R I PCPS, denoting his ecclesiastical and imperial titles. The whole is enclosed within a finely toothed milled border. |

| Additional information |
Wolfgang von Schrattenbach served as Prince-Bishop of Olomouc from 1711 until his death in 1738, and this early ducat — struck just a year into his tenure — coincides with the final phase of the War of the Spanish Succession, when Bohemian ecclesiastical mints were operating under persistent financial strain from imperial military levies. The Bishopric of Olomouc held the right to strike gold coinage as a sovereign ecclesiastical prince within the Empire, a privilege jealously maintained against recurring Habsburg pressure to consolidate minting authority in Vienna.
Fr#97 is not a common type in any grade. Ducats from Olomouc in this period circulated primarily within Moravia's ecclesiastical and noble networks rather than in broad trade.
