Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold patriarchal cross with flared terminals, set within a beaded or rope-like inner circle. The quarters of the cross contain decorative foliate or ornamental elements typical of Wallachian hammered coinage. A circular Cyrillic legend surrounds the central motif, reading the ruler's name and title. The strike is characteristically irregular, as expected of a hammered medieval gold issue. The overall design reflects the Byzantine artistic influence prevalent in 14th-century Wallachian numismatic tradition.
