Reverse description The reverse presents a frontal standing figure of Christ in Majesty (Christus benedicens), nimbed, robed in flowing drapery, with the right hand raised in blessing and the left hand holding the Gospels. The figure is set within a pointed mandorla or oval glory formed by a beaded border and surrounded by a field of six-pointed stars arranged symmetrically on either side. A double beaded circle encloses the design, with the Latin Gloria in Excelsis Deo legend in uncial script distributed around the outer margin, punctuated by trefoil or star stops. The reverse type is directly modelled on the Venetian gold ducat reverse, adapted here for the Genoese colonial administration of Chios.
