Martin of Gerstmann was elected Bishop of Breslau in 1574, the first native Silesian to hold the see in over a century. His episcopate coincided with intense confessional pressure — Lutheranism had taken deep root among the Silesian nobility and burghers, and Gerstmann spent much of his tenure attempting to stabilize Catholic institutions without triggering open conflict. These ducats were struck across just two years, almost certainly to fund administrative and diplomatic costs rather than for general circulation.
