Additional information

Leopold I's Bohemian ducats of the 1680s were struck under the shadow of the Great Turkish War, which had reached its crisis point with the Ottoman siege of Vienna in 1683. The lifting of that siege — and the subsequent imperial counteroffensive — required enormous financial mobilization across Habsburg territories, and the Prague mint was active supplying gold coinage to satisfy both military and diplomatic obligations.

The Prague mint's ducat output under Leopold is catalogued across a wide span by Herinek, with subtle annual die variations that make precise attribution worthwhile for serious collectors.
