Obverse description A fully armored knight stands in profile to the right, his figure bisected by the date, brandishing a raised sword in his right hand while his left hand grasps a bundle of seven arrows symbolizing the seven United Provinces. The knight is draped with a flowing scarf and is depicted in a vigorous martial stance. A continuous Latin legend encircles the design, terminating with the Utrecht mint mark. The overall composition reflects the bold, declarative style characteristic of Dutch provincial gold coinage of the period.
