Obverse description Central field displays the papal coat of arms of Julius II within an ornate shield, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is flanked by elaborate decorative elements. The surrounding legend reads IVLIVS II PONT MAX, identifying the issuing pontiff. The design is executed in the bold, late-medieval hammered style characteristic of Papal State coinage of the early sixteenth century. The overall composition reflects the artistic conventions of Bologna Mint production under papal authority.
