Münsterberg-Oels was a small Silesian duchy that passed through the Podiebrad dynasty before coming under the control of the Habsburgs — and these ducats were struck under Johann (John) of Podiebrad, whose rule coincided with a period of intense dynastic pressure from Vienna. Silesian duchies of this period routinely issued gold coinage not out of commercial necessity but as declarations of continued autonomy, and the ducat was the prestige vehicle for that message.
Friedberg 3233 is genuinely scarce in any grade. The decade-long emission window suggests low-volume intermittent striking rather than sustained production.
