Obverse description Enthroned facing figure of the Virgin Mary, crowned and nimbed, holding the Christ Child on her left arm. The infant Christ is depicted raising his right hand in blessing. The figures are rendered in the medieval Gothic tradition typical of Hungarian ducats. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the circular Latin legend reading IOHAN SIGIS M R... (Johann Sigismund, King) around the periphery, separated by cross stops.

Reverse description Crowned quartered coat of arms of Hungary and Transylvania, displaying the Hungarian fesses (horizontal bars) and the Árpád stripes in the first and fourth quarters, the double cross of Hungary in the second quarter, and further heraldic charges including the Transylvanian eagle and the seven castles of Transylvania. An ornate crown surmounts the shield. The circular Latin legend reads VSABE D G REGIN VNGA (Isabella, by the Grace of God, Queen of Hungary), with the date 1557 (as visible in the image) incorporated into the legend, separated by cross stops and a beaded border.
