Additional information

János Kemény's tenure as Prince of Transylvania lasted barely a year. Elected in late 1660 with Ottoman opposition, he spent his short rule attempting to secure Habsburg military support against the Porte — a gamble that ended at the Battle of Nagyszőlős in January 1662, where he was killed and his body never recovered. Ducats struck under his name therefore span an exceptionally narrow window.

Fr#423 is among the scarcer Transylvanian regal gold issues precisely because the issuing authority collapsed mid-production.
