| Reverse description | Equestrian figure of Duke Jacob Kettler on a rearing horse, facing right, the rider holding a baton or sceptre aloft in his right hand; above the horse, a palm branch extends into the upper field. The entire scene is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, above which a crossed ornament or saltire appears at the top. The encircling Latin legend MONETA : NOVA : AVREA : ANNO : 1646 runs around the periphery, with the date 1646 visible at the upper left. The reverse design follows the tradition of equestrian ducats associated with the Baltic nobility of the period. |
