Reverse description A cruciform arrangement of four crowned heraldic shields occupying the full field, each shield separated by scepters forming a saltire cross pattern, with a central sunburst radiating from the intersection. The upper shield bears the arms of Great Britain (quarterly, England and Scotland with France in pretence), the left and right shields display the arms of Brunswick and Luneburg respectively, and the lower shield bears the arms of Westphalia. The date 1717 is divided across the upper field flanking the central shield, and the circular Latin legend BR & L D S R I A T & EL encircles the design, denoting the ruler's titles as Duke of Brunswick and Luneburg, Arch-Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire.
