| Additional information |
George Louis had been Elector of Hannover for over a decade when this ducat was struck, but 1713 marked a pivotal year in his political trajectory — the War of the Spanish Succession was winding down, and the Protestant succession in Britain was hardening into certainty under the Act of Settlement. He would become George I of Great Britain the following year. Ducats of this electorate from his reign circulated largely in diplomatic and mercantile contexts rather than daily trade, the denomination being too valuable for ordinary exchange.
Fr#592 ducats from Hannover are notably scarce in anything above VF, the soft .986 gold susceptible to contact marks that accumulate quickly in even brief handling.
