| Obverse description | Central device consists of the quartered royal arms of George II surmounted by an arched and jewelled crown. The four quarters display the arms of England (three passant guardant lions), Scotland (a rampant lion within a double tressure flory-counter-flory), Ireland (a harp), and France (three fleurs-de-lis), with the small escutcheon of Hanover at centre. The shield occupies the majority of the field, with no effigy of the monarch present. A continuous Latin legend encircles the design reading GEORG II D G M BRIT F ET H REX F D B ET L DVX S R I A T H ET E L, identifying the king's full royal and electoral titles. |
