Additional information

George Frederick I governed Jägerndorf as a cadet branch holding of the Hohenzollern dynasty — the same house that would eventually consolidate Brandenburg-Prussia into a European power. In 1578, he was simultaneously Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, making his Silesian duchy something of an afterthought administratively, which likely explains the modest surviving population of ducats struck in his name from Jägerndorf.

The Friedensburg reference places this among the documented Silesian gold issues, a category thin enough that individual specimens routinely appear only once or twice per decade at major auction houses.
