Reverse description A flaming torch or flame rising from a stepped classical altar occupies the center of the field, symbolizing the enduring light of the Evangelical Reformation. The date 1717 and the inscription 31 · OCT are engraved directly on the face of the altar, commemorating the 31 October anniversary of Luther's posting of the Ninety-Five Theses. The legend surrounding the design is rendered in Early Modern German and reads HILF DEINEN VOLCK HERR IESV CHRIST · V · SEGNE WAS DEIN ERETHEIL IST ·, meaning 'Help Thy people, Lord Jesus Christ, and bless what is Thine inheritance.' Below the altar, separated by a line, the inscription EVANG · IVBEL FEST · identifies this as a jubilee festival coin for the bicentenary of the Evangelical Reformation.
