Additional information

Francis Josias ruled Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld from 1735 until his death in 1764, spending much of that period as a field marshal in Habsburg service — he commanded Imperial forces during the War of Austrian Succession and the early Seven Years' War. The ducats struck under his name were essentially a small-state obligation: German imperial law required princes of his rank to maintain coinage rights, and these issues reflect obligation more than economic necessity for a duchy of this modest size.

Fr#3011 is scarce in any grade. Surviving examples appear predominantly in old cabinet collections rather than circulation finds.
