Additional information

Francis II assumed the title of Holy Roman Emperor in 1792, the same year this ducat series began, inheriting an empire already under existential pressure from revolutionary France. He would be the last to hold that title — Napoleon's reorganization of German territories forced Francis to dissolve the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, at which point he retreated to his Austrian hereditary title. The ducats struck in these years carry his Roman imperial designation, making this a type with a hard terminal date determined not by mint policy but by geopolitical collapse.
