| Obverse description | Standing full-length figure of Saint Peter, nimbed and robed, facing right, holding a long staff or key in his left hand, with the Duke of Milan, Filippo Maria Visconti, kneeling in adoration before him at right. The two figures are rendered in the Gothic style typical of Milanese ducats of the period. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters reads DVX S PETRVS / D MEDIOLANI, identifying both the saint and the issuing lord. The field is flat and the coin edge is characteristically irregular, consistent with hammered gold coinage. |
