| Obverse description | Full-length armored figure of Ferdinand I standing facing, wearing plate armor and a plumed helmet, holding a scepter in his right hand and an orb in his left. The figure is rendered in the late Gothic style typical of Habsburg coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. A circular legend surrounds the central device, reading MON AVRE FERD I NAN D G RO, designating Ferdinand as King of the Romans. The field is plain gold, with fine hammered texture characteristic of the period. |
