Reverse description The reverse bears an entirely epigraphic design, with a seven-line German-language memorial inscription filling the field: WAS TRAURET IHR DOCH! BIN ICH GLEICH TOD, SO LEBT GOTT NOCH, conveying a pious consolatory message attributed to the fallen king. Below the inscription, separated by a horizontal line, the date of Charles XII's death is recorded as 1718 D 11 DECEMBR. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border matching the obverse. The bold, well-spaced lettering is characteristic of early eighteenth-century German commemorative coinage.
