| Obverse description | A fully armored knight stands facing right in the field, the date divided to either side of the figure. The knight raises a drawn sword in his right hand and clasps a bundle of seven arrows — symbolizing the seven United Provinces — in his left. The surrounding legend reads CONCORDIA · RES PAR CRES · HOL · 1673, invoking the motto of unity and identifying the Province of Holland. The design is rendered in the vigorous, high-relief style characteristic of Dutch hammered gold coinage of the seventeenth century. |
