Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Adolphus Frederick III facing right, wearing a long flowing wig in the Baroque court style. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the lace cravat and mantle. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait within a milled border, reading D G ADOLP FRID III MECLRENB DUX.

Reverse description An allegorical figure of Faith, kneeling and gesturing upward in supplication toward a radiant sunburst from which a dove descends, symbolizing divine grace. To the left stands a cross amid a cityscape, and to the right a domed church or temple building, representing the Protestant faith and its institutions. The scene commemorates the bicentenary of the Lutheran Reformation. The exergue and lower field bear the Latin inscription MEGAPOLIS JUBILANS / ANNO 1717 31 OCT / I H I.
