Obverse description The arms of the City of Ulm displayed on an oval shield within an elaborate cartouche composed of foliate and strapwork ornament, with flanking decorative supporters at left and right. The upper portion of the frame features a prominent eagle's head or foliate finial, while the lower border carries the mintmaster's initials M and K separated by a small ornament. The shield itself is divided, with the upper half bearing a decorative floral device and the lower half horizontally lined, representing the traditional Ulm civic arms. The entire design is executed in the high-relief Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century South German coinage.
