| Additional information |
Regensburg occupied a peculiar constitutional position in the late Holy Roman Empire — as both a Free City and the permanent seat of the Immerwährender Reichstag, the perpetual imperial diet that had met there without interruption since 1663. The city's right to strike gold coinage was inseparable from that status. When the Empire dissolved in 1806 and Regensburg was absorbed into Bavaria, the mint closed permanently.
The 1792–1803 window for this type is tight by design: French Revolutionary pressure on the Rhine territories compressed the final decade of imperial coinage into a narrow, turbulent run.
