Obverse description Imperial double-headed eagle displayed with wings spread, surmounted by a single crown bearing a cross, and an escutcheon on the breast. The date 1790 appears in the lower field, divided by the eagle's talons which grasp an orb. The surrounding legend reads LEOPOLDVS II ROM IMP SEMP AVGVST, identifying Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II. The design is executed in high relief with fine feather detailing characteristic of late 18th-century German minting.

Reverse description A four-line Latin inscription — MON AVR / LVBECENS / AD LEGEM / IMPERII — set within a recessed rectangular tablet with a raised border, translating as 'Gold coin of Lübeck according to Imperial law.' The tablet is framed by elaborate laurel and oak festoons flanking both sides, with a five-pointed star and wreath ornament at the top. The mintmaster's initials H·D·F· appear below the tablet within a foliate cartouche. The overall composition is formal and heraldic, consistent with the civic coinage tradition of the Free Hanseatic cities.
