Reverse description The Hamburg city arms — a white castle with three towers on a red field — displayed at centre within a wreath of two elaborate palm or laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon, the date split to either side of the castle below (e.g. 1705), and the engraver's initials IR appearing at the bottom between the branches. The surrounding Latin legend MONETA AUREA CIVITATIS HAMBURGEN runs around the full periphery, punctuated by a floral ornament at the top.
