Obverse description The city eagle of Dortmund displayed with wings spread and head turned to sinister, struck in high relief at the centre of the field. The heraldic bird is rendered in the bold, stylised manner characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century German municipal coinage. The central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential Latin legend running between that border and an outer beaded rim.
