Obverse description At center, the ornate civic arms of Rostock displayed within a rectangular shield: a rampant griffin to sinister occupying the upper portion, set above a horizontally hatched base, the whole shield surrounded by elaborate baroque scrollwork cartouche. The central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The Latin legend encircles the periphery, incorporating the date, reading MONETA.AUREA.CIVITA:ROSTOCH: with the year following.

Reverse description A large crowned Imperial double-headed eagle displayed at center, the heads surmounted by a single imperial crown, the breast charged with an orb bearing a cross pattee, with wings spread and elaborately feathered. The eagle is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin titulature of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III disposed around the periphery as a continuous legend.
