Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the stylized frontal head of the Mecklenburg bull (steer), rendered in archaic Gothic fashion with prominent horns and facial features. The device is surrounded by a Gothic legend reading in two lines between the inner beaded circle and the outer beaded border of the coin. The overall style is characteristic of early sixteenth-century North German hammered coinage.
