Obverse description Within a grooved inner circle, a quartered coat of arms bearing the heraldic fields of Saxony — arranged with eagle, lions, and pales (Rautenkranz) — surmounted by a lozenge-shaped wreath escutcheon at the center. The last two digits of the date are divided and placed to either side of the shield in the field. Above the shield appears the mintmaster's mark of Anton Koburger, a vine leaf, serving as the workshop identifier for the Saalfeld mint.
