Reverse description Central field bears the helmeted ducal Saxon arms — the barry-paly escutcheon of the Duchy of Saxony surmounted by a crested open helm with mantling — set within elaborate scrollwork and foliate ornament. The four digits of the year are divided by the shield, with two numerals placed to each side, reading 15 and 35 (for 1535 on this example). The heraldic engraving follows the same vigorous late-Gothic hammered tradition as the obverse, with bold, deeply struck relief.
