Obverse description Two adjacent heraldic shields side by side in the central field: on the left, the Hohenzollern quartered shield displaying the distinctive sable and argent checky pattern; on the right, a rampant lion passant representing the Franconian territorial arms. Above the shields, a small decorative fleur-de-lis or foliate ornament is visible. The letter 'S' appears in the lower field below the shields, serving as a mint or mintmaster mark. The flan is irregular and the design is rendered in the characteristic flat, linear style of late sixteenth-century hammered German coinage.
