Additional information

Regenstein was a small County wedged into the Harz region whose ruling line spent much of the sixteenth century in fractious co-rulership arrangements — Ernest I, Bodo II, and Kaspar Ulrich issuing jointly under the kind of partitioned authority that made German territorial coinage of this period administratively messy and numismatically interesting. The County was already in financial difficulty by the 1560s, caught between imperial obligations and dwindling resources, and would be absorbed by Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel before the century was out.

Three-named co-issues of this type rarely circulated far beyond the immediate region.
