Obverse description Central field occupied by a heart-shaped heraldic shield, characteristic of the Anhalt joint-rulers' coinage of the Kipper und Wipper period. The date 1622 is expressed by the numerals '2' and '2' flanking the shield to the upper left and upper right respectively, the '16' portion being implied by convention of the era. The execution is crude and irregular, consistent with the emergency hammered coinage of the early seventeenth-century German States. The design is contained within a plain or beaded border.
