Obverse description Four-fold quartered shield of arms, the quarters displaying the heraldic devices of the Abbey of Herford, with a rampant lion in the upper-left quarter. The date is divided to either side of the shield, and a Latin legend appears above in the field. The coin is struck in the hammered technique typical of small German ecclesiastical issues of the mid-sixteenth century.
