Obverse description Crowned Saxon arms displayed in the central field, surrounded by a continuous legend incorporating the ducal titulature and the date 1653. The coin was issued to commemorate the commencement of the rebuilding of the Ducal Palace at Weimar, lending it a commemorative character alongside its circulation function. The lettering is arranged around the periphery in the Latin script typical of German territorial coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.
