Obverse description Effigy of King Kanishka I depicted full-length, facing, wearing a crowned and diademed helmet with elaborate headdress; the king is shown in typical Kushan royal attire, holding a long spear in his right hand while extending his left hand to sacrifice over a small altar at lower left. A Bactrian legend runs along the upper field. The bold, stylized rendering reflects the syncretic Greco-Bactrian and Iranian artistic tradition characteristic of early Kushan coinage.
