Additional information

The Bukhar Khudat were the ruling lords of the Bukhara oasis, and their coinage represents one of the longest-running imitative traditions in Central Asian numismatics — local rulers striking debased copies of Sasanian drachms long after political ties to the Iranian plateau had dissolved. The countermark applied to this piece was a deliberate act of re-authorization, effectively vouching for the coin's acceptability in local exchange when its Sasanian prototype had lost credibility or become scarce.

Zeimal's classification of this type remains the foundational reference, drawn largely from Soviet-era excavation hoards in Sogdia.
