Obverse description A stag standing to the right occupies the central field, its elaborate antlers surmounted by a Buddhist symbol (Nandipada or triratna), rendered in a bold, stylised manner characteristic of early Indian coinage. To the right of the stag rises a flowering tree or sacred plant, depicted with leafy branches and dotted fruit or blossoms. A small railed stupa or shrine appears in the lower left field. The entire central device is surrounded by a circular Brahmi legend running along the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan.
