| Reverse description | Quartered shield of Milanese arms — displaying the Visconti biscione, the Imperial eagle, and other dynastic charges — set within an ornate baroque cartouche surmounted by a royal crown. The four quarters are divided by a plain cross, with each quarter containing heraldic devices rendered in fine hammered relief. The peripheral legend MEDIOLANI DVX ETC encircles the composition, affirming Philip III's title as Duke of Milan. The baroque framing and heraldic complexity are characteristic of Milanese gold coinage of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. |
