| Obverse description | Elaborate papal coat of arms of Innocent XI (House of Odescalchi), featuring a quartered shield bearing an eagle in the upper half and a lion passant in the lower half, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, all set within an ornate baroque cartouche of acanthus leaf scrollwork. The circular Latin legend reads INNOCEN·XI·PONT·M·A·X· distributed around the periphery, with the regnal year number appearing at the lower right. The entire design is rendered in high relief in the baroque style characteristic of late seventeenth-century Roman die-cutting. |
