| Additional information |
Giovanni Andrea II Doria received the lordship of Loano from Philip IV of Spain in 1624, and the county's coinage authority was exercised only intermittently — the 1639 Doppia sits within a very narrow window of local gold production for this tiny Ligurian coastal territory. Loano's minting rights were always precarious, dependent on Genoese and Spanish tolerance, and issues were small by necessity.
KM#10 is among the rarer documented Doria gold pieces, with surviving examples almost exclusively in European institutional collections.
