| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped bust of Ferdinand Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua, in left profile, wearing a ruffled collar and richly ornamented mantle, rendered in high relief with fine Baroque detail. The effigy is bold and naturalistic, occupying the central field within an inner beaded border. The mintmaster's initials G·C appear in the lower field beneath the bust truncation. The circumferential Latin legend reads FERDIN·D·G·DVX·MANTVAE·VI, identifying the ruler as Ferdinand, by the grace of God Sixth Duke of Mantua. |
