| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of King Felipe II facing right, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown, within a beaded inner circle. The Latin legend encircles the effigy, reading PHI REX HISPANI ETC, identifying the sovereign as Philip, King of Spain and etc. The portrait is rendered in the Renaissance style typical of mid-to-late sixteenth-century Milanese coinage, with fine detailing on the armor and crown. A date, when present, appears below the bust in the exergue. |

| Reverse description | A quartered heraldic shield of Milan, divided into four quarters and surmounted by an imperial crown with elaborate mantling and scrollwork supporters on either side. The upper-left and lower-right quarters display the Visconti biscione (a crowned serpent devouring a human figure), while the upper-right and lower-left quarters bear the Sforza eagle displayed. The encircling Latin legend reads MEDIOL ANI DVX, identifying the ruler as Duke of Milan. The overall composition is characteristic of late Renaissance Milanese heraldic engraving. |
