Produced by the U.S. military's PSYOP units during the Vietnam War, these notes replicate the South Vietnamese 1 Đồng issue closely enough to pass a casual glance, then deliver a surrender or defection message on the reverse. The intent was not to defraud financially but to exploit the familiarity of currency as a handled, trusted object — something a soldier might pick up without immediate suspicion.
Distribution was primarily by air drop over North Vietnamese and Viet Cong positions. Millions were printed, which makes surviving examples common, though finding one with the full reverse text intact and unfolded is less straightforward than the quantities suggest.
